Christian Parkes is an emerging artist having first exhibited in 2006. He was born in the south west of England in the rural county of Devon. The south west is famed for the stunning beauty of its coastline, battered by swell from the Atlantic and its wild, free, windswept moorland. Steeped in myth and legend the area was once part of the ancient Celtic kingdom of Dumonia. The power of this landscape has deeply inspired him.

Christian has always been touched with the creative fire and the expression of this fire has been a lifelong activity. Drawing and painting consistently through his life. He studied Film at Art college but returned to painting as a purer medium in which to channel his passion and explore the spiritual and philosophical themes that recur throughout his art. He developed a unique style of oil painting working mostly in isolation inspired by the beauty of creation and great artists from the past. After his first exhibition he opened himself up to a wider community of related contemporary artists. Traveling to Canada, meeting and studying under the visionary artists Alex and Alyson Grey in 2009 added new depth to his work.

Christian’s art can be seen as visionary in that his paintings translate the visions of inspired imagination. He can also be counted amongst a number of artists who aim for their work to have a positive impact on the wider world by actively helping to create and evolve a new vision for humanity. A vision of greater peace, beauty, love and harmony. To this aim much of Christian’s work attempts to highlight the true brilliance of our nature as human souls and the true gift and vast opportunity of this existence.
