Garrido
"France
Garrido's large collages reflect the exploration of surrealist
language in carefully crafted combinations of images and found
objects which create a sense of both dream and nightmare,
past and present in imageries that seduce, confuse and provide
psychic catharsis". J. Taylor Basker, N.Y.C., N.Y.
France
Garrido was born in New York City, N.Y. Her primary medium
is collage/mixed media and secondary medium is acrylic paint.
She has been greatly influenced by Hannah Hoch, Salvadore
Dali, Dorothea Tanning, Remedios Varo, Jorge Gonzalez Camarena,
and many others, as well as 'primitive cultures' worldwide.
There have been other influences in her life, which have inspired
her artistic growth. Nature and Spirit are key to that growth.
Experimenting
with many mediums (pen and ink, fabric, acrylic paint, graphite,
colored pencil, collage and mixed media) all presented different
challenges, characteristics and possibilities to the execution
of a piece of art. Now she is focusing her attention on collage/mixed
media, which has limitless fascination for her. Garrido works
on an intuitive level, and allows the piece to speak and guide
her during the process. These creations provoke a sense of
mystery and spirit.
"I
am seeking to touch; deep within the viewers spirit a truth
or essence. To awaken/nudge/shift the unconscious."
Seduction
into another world...A world of vision and dream.
